Park(ing) Day 2025 〰️ 19th September 〰️
What is Park(ing) Day?
Park(ing) Day is a global annual event aimed at reimagining the potential of urban spaces, specifically parking spaces. As urban neighbourhoods face growing challenges such as social isolation and climate change, Park(ing) Day offers a powerful way to demonstrate how a single parking space can be transformed to serve the broader needs of the community, beyond simply spaces for cars.
Last year, Define took part in Park(ing) Day in collaboration with Jointworks by reimagining their parking spaces on Frederick Street in the Jewellery Quarter. Following the success of that event, Define are partnering with the Jewellery Quarter BID to invite other organisations across the Jewellery Quarter and wider Birmingham to create their own parklets for this year’s Park(ing) Day on the 19th September 2025.
Building on last year’s success, we plan to take it even further, giving you the opportunity to participate.
What‘s the plan?
We are passionate about helping urban environments thrive, both culturally, socially and environmentally. Just as importantly, we are proud members and residents of the Jewellery Quarter community.
This year we’ve selected Caroline Street as our hub for Park(ing) Day, a vibrant location running through the heart of the Jewellery Quarter, connecting the bustling Warstone Lane to the leafy St Paul’s Square.
Inspired by the success of last year’s event as well as other temporary and tactical urbanism approaches across Birmingham, we would like to temporarily transform this active yet car-dominated connection by occupying a selection of on street parking spaces with spaces for people, plants, art and community.
We see Park(ing) Day as a valuable opportunity to allow ourselves and other organisations to engage in our vibrant neighbourhood by transforming parking spaces into places with greater social and environmental purpose, spaces that serve people, not just vehicles.
We also hope that these simple, low-cost interventions spark fresh ideas about how small urban spaces can be reimagined, and help inspire more permanent and public urban regeneration initiatives across the Jewellery Quarter.
